Why does Mirantus exist?

  1. Declining ophthalmology capacity

Today, more than 50% of ophthalmologists are 50 or older, and almost 30% are 60 or older. Due to a lack of successors and the trend towards part-time employment, ophthalmology capacity will increasingly be unable to keep up with the need for care.[1, 2, 3]

  2. More cases due to an ageing population

Ophthalmology is already one of the most frequently consulted specialties. Because of demographic change, the number of patients with eye diseases will rise by more than 20% over the next 20 years.[3, 4]

  3. Teleophthalmology as support

New care pathways can counter the growing shortage of care, with positive experiences already in other countries (e.g. the UK). The Mirantus concept follows the innovative Diagnostic Hub model of the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, which combines measurements taken on site by trained staff with telemedical assessment by ophthalmologists.[5]

Benefits for your partner practice

  • Reliable requests

Assessments are always carried out by specialists in ophthalmology. This minimises the false-positive cases that are common and problematic with conventional “AI screenings”.

  • High-quality measurement data

Comprehensive measurement data is professionally collected in advance by trained opticians or optometrists and sent to your practice.

  • Efficient appointment management

Use the Mirantus appointment management tool or connect your calendar (via Doctolib, Arzt-Direkt or similar).

  • More time for your patients

Spend more time with the patients who truly need your expertise.

Backed by science

Teleophthalmology care models demonstrably create easy access to care, relieve specialists and increase efficiency through interdisciplinary collaboration. Studies show high patient satisfaction, shorter waiting times and cost savings for the health system.[6, 7, 8, 9, 10]
